Be Inspired

At St Francis de Sales College we want all members of our community to ‘Be inspired’ about learning.

Our three Vision for Learning Pillars of Together, Discover and Grow express our belief that the potential of each member is enlivened through strong relationships, where contemporary knowledge, skills and capabilities are developed through engagement and curiosity. We aspire to our personal best by welcoming challenges with resilience and by celebrating successes in our learning journey. Each Vision for Learning Pillar is explained through our Core Commitments, which detail both our determination and responsibility in empowering self-motivated and creative learners. Grounded in our Catholic values, at St Francis de Sales College we continue to be inspired to positively and courageously impact our local and global environment, both in the present and for the future.

Together…

We believe that learning is enhanced through a strong sense of community and connectedness. Learning occurs best in collaborative relationships where each individual is valued.

We commit to:

  • Collaboration in learning between students, staff and parents
  • Building community focused upon learning
  • Respectful relationships that encourage rich conversations about learning
  • Ongoing professional dialogue about our practice and pedagogy
  • Engagement of students through relevant and authentic learning that is accessible to all.

‘For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.’ (Romans 12: 4-5)

Discover…

We believe that learning occurs best when knowledge and skills are applied by curious and engaged explorers, using critical thinking and inquiry to create solutions for current and future situations.

We commit to:

  • Providing students with the strong foundation of knowledge and skills required to be successful
  • Developing active learners with the critical thinking and problem solving skills required in inquiry based learning
  • Delivering an environment that enables, and guides, creativity in construction
  • Nurturing in students a sense of awe and wonder in their world, utilising their natural curiosity to drive exploration
  • Facilitating progressive and innovative learning experiences, differentiated to meet the needs of all
  • Engaging students by challenging and extending them.

Grow…

We believe that all members of our community grow when they aspire to their personal best. Risk-taking and embracing challenges with courage builds resilience and enables growth.

We commit to:

  • Striving for excellence and naming success as our own personal best
  • Recognising and celebrating the achievement of excellence and endeavour within our community
  • Developing courage and risk-taking in the face of challenges in pursuit of educational growth
  • Developing both a desire and belief to grow through dedication and hard work • Building resilience as key to developing self-motivated and aspirational learners and leaders
  • Encouraging students to develop leadership skills by providing opportunities to practice and implement those skills.
